PAWS

The charitable organization closest to my heart is the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS). They are an organization that promotes proper care and treatment for animals.

It is really a peeve of mine that a lot of animals are treated as possessions and not companions. Just like having kids, having pets is a responsibility not a right. It makes me really sad to see mistreated animals and I wish I could take them all home with me. But then, in a country where most of the population doesn't get adequate care, I can understand why people focus on other concerns. Still, everybody can do their share.

PAWS has an animal shelter that cares for abandoned and unwanted animals. It survives mainly on donations. It provides veterinary care, food and love for them until they are adopted by caring families.

PAWS Animal Rehabilitation Center or PARC is the first real animal shelter in this country. It is PAWS’ most ambitious project to date and is now serving as a center for charitable veterinary services, catering to the pets of the low-income sector and, is providing temporary shelter to the countless number of (rescued, abandoned and abused) animals.

You can visit the shelter at Katipunan Valley in the Loyola Heights area of Quezon City, with telephone No. +632 724l986. The director and shelter manager is Oscar Lei. You can also talk toNita Lichauco.

The shelter's clinic offers low-cost neutering of dogs and cats, as a way to curb the overpopulation of unwanted pets.

Dont give Pets as Gifts
They're not stuffed toys. They need care and attention, and there's a financial requirement involved as well. People should be ready for the responsibility and shouldnt get a pet foisted on them. Plus a lot of puppies / kitties outgrow their stuffed toy cuteness.
